Caving in northern Alabama

A few months ago I discovered, deep in a very tiny and muddy cave, that I am not in fact claustrophobic. Underground squeezes just big enough for my skinny hips into pitch dark mudpits don't seem to phase me.  Ledges of mud hanging from the ceiling (cave lamellae?) were a bit sketchy at times, though.

We found cavefishes without eyes [in the bag] and many a strange pale arthropod [in the vial] in that chocolate slip n' slide of a tiny hole. It was so tiny and slippery that the best way to navigate was hauling yourself by your arms flat on your belly to slide a meter or so at a time.

It was a hell of a thing.

I'm amazed I can get paid to do this...
